Cobra Kai is a popular show on Youtube that kicks off from the popular movie from way back, The Karate Kid. Collider’s Perri Nemiroff hosted the panel. In attendance was original Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio, breakout star William Zabka, Martin Kove (Kreese), Mary Mouser, Zolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, as well as showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald.
During the panel, Ralph explained how the new series allows characters to develop further than the one-dimensional characters that they were in the original movie.
Season Three Details
In case you didn’t know, Cobra Kai is getting a third season. The showrunners delved into how Cobra Kai and Miyagi Dojo evolve. Heald’s statement included that Danny will revisit Okinawa, Japan which was the setting ot The Karate Kid Part II. In the future, Macchio stated that they want to have a sequence where Danny and Johnny bond while drinking together.
Q&A
During the Q&A, a question arose whether or not Miguel would leave Cobra Kai after the events that happened with Robby. Xolo then stated that Miguel’s allegiance to Johnny would actually not be shaken after what Robby did.
A question was then asked is Ali Mills would return, but it was not answered by the showrunners.
Zabka then hinted that his relationship with his estranged son could become more prominent after season two.
The showrunners then hinted that the series actually could be getting a home video release. There are no solid plans yet though.
They did confirm that Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce is still a part of the Cobra Kai world.
As far as the training that goes into the series, Buchanan and Mouser joked that the stretching regiment is the most painful part of their training. Mouser revealed that Sam’s fight with Robby didn’t have a lot of prior preparation, so they ended up taking on some “big lumps” while trying to perfect the scene. In addition, Mariduena expressed that doing push-ups on camera gave him stage-fright.
Xolo or Sholo?
The final question of the panel was how to properly pronounce Xolo Mariduena’s name. He said that it’s pronounced “Sholo.”
