One of the most pleasant surprises of 2018 was the first YouTube Red original series Cobra Kai actually being quite good. As someone who grew up in the 80’s and has hated the bastardization of many movies and TV series from the time that have been made for a quick cash grab, this was a welcome surprise. When the first season of Cobra Kai was released, I went into it not expecting much and my wife and I ran through all 10 episodes in a single sitting. With a cliffhanger ending that had fans of the original Karate Kid movie jumping out of their seats, the anticipation for a second season was at a fever pitch. Finally, we have a date and a trailer for the continuation of the story.
The rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence appears to be far from over, especially with the return of more characters from the original film. The teaser asks if you’re Team Miyagi-Do or Team Cobra Kai. After the first season, it’s No Mercy from me all the way. Because, as we all now know, Daniel was the real villain of that story.
Cobra Kai returns to YouTube Red on April 24th with 10 new episodes and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles from the films, who also serve as co-executive producers.
