[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11727″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]For fans of a truly dark and haunting comic, look no further than Batman Damned #2. Opening up to the story is a panel symbolizing pain and foreshadowing the theme of the story to follow. There is nothing pretty about this comic, which is from Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo; but it is beautiful. With grim hues and emotion filled eyes, Batman Damned #2 reminds us of how Batman stories should be.
While there is some involvement of Constantine, who adds for a bit of sardonic humor in this grim tale; the comic is all about Batman. And don’t we love seeing the Dark Knight in his proper place, in the grimes of Gotham. A masked man staring face to face with thugs who outnumber him, but he does not back down.
Minor spoiler ahead.
The comic focuses on a Joker-ish version of Batman’s iconic symbol, which leads you to believe it’s the Clown Prince taunting the Caped Crusader. When we do finally meet “The Joker”, it’s none other than Harley Quinn. Donning the classic Harley Quinn outfit with facepaint somewhere in between nostalgic Harley makeup, Joker warpaint, and a sugar skull. While I love the new adaptations of Harley in a “kinder” and almost heroine capacity, it’s good to see Harley bad. Batman and Harley have always had this odd, twisted chemistry, and again, the expression in the eyes was absolutely gorgeous.
Not to spoil the end, but Batman Damned #2 is a gorgeously dark and gruesome comic that is gritty and worthy of something we’d see in a Christopher Nolan film. Please be sure to pick up this comic if you’re a Batman fan, you won’t regret it.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”11728,11729″ img_size=”900×500″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][vc_images_carousel images=”11731,11732,11733,11734,11735,11730″ img_size=”400×600″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
