[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”19434″ img_size=”411×631″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]This isn’t your Scooby Doo from the old animated cartoons and cartoon movies that you are probably used to from growing up. While there is a small, tiny scene that involves Shaggy and Scooby that has them hilariously praising pizza, the conclusion of this Apocalypse tale is both heartfelt, heartbreaking, and sees more than one character willing to sacrifice them for the greater good.
Velma is the mother of the Nanites and must deal with not only being praised by the creatures, but having to face what the Nanites are intending for the rest of humanity. For much of the cartoons, Velma and her constantly losing her glasses was a source of humor, but in the comics, she is presented as smart, valuable, and selfless. We see that she loves her husband Shaggy, but not everything is perfect between them as they have their own intermarital problems to deal with, on top of the supernatural conundrum at hand.
I bet you’ve never seen the Scooby Doo gang blasting away villainous creatures and it is pretty cool to see a more “bad ass” spin on these characters. And as for Freddy and Daphne, their story is heartbreaking and bittersweet and really gives me more of an appreciation of their characters, whereas in the old cartoons, they were just the one-dimensional “jocks” and Daphne is one kick-ass woman in this issue.
If you have been keeping up with this issue, it is a really nice conclusion to the story. And if you haven’t ever picked up the Apocalypse series, then maybe seeing how every concludes will inspire you to pick up the other copies, as it’s really a great comic book story for those who were fans of the cartoon but wanted to see a more adult, serious tone to the Scooby Doo franchise.
