Complete List of SAG Award Winners 2021

The  27th Screen Actors Guild Awards did things a bit differently last night. We only received an hour-long and pre-tapped ceremony. This is the only show voted entirely by actors and for COVID -safety reason the 2021 awards show had no red carpet, no set, no-host, and sadly no afterparties.

In order to do a pre-tapped show, actors honored were required to sign a nondisclosure agreement before tapping. After that, just days before the telecast the actual awards were given out in video sessions. They did a great job keeping it all secret until the rest of us were able to see it Sunday night. Has much as I like seeing all the pretty dresses, just handing out awards and doing in an hour-long show was quite refreshing.

Television Awards

Netflix hit it big last night with “The Crown” and “Schitt’s Creek,”. I couldn’t retweet these shows wining fast enough. Having just started watching “Schitt’s Creek” with my daughter who has long finished the series we were excited. Catherine O’Hara picked up the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series and the entire cast received Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. In the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series “The Crown” took it home with Gillian Anderson receiving the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. “Ted Lasso” once again made a winner out of Jason Sudeikis, who is on a roll, for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

Motion Pictures Awards

Receiving its first major award season win, Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” brought home the biggest award of the night for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. The film, which chronicles the trial of a real-life group of Vietnam War protesters who were falsely accused of inciting riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Accepting the trophy virtually were stars Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Strong, and Frank Langella.

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” with the late Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis,  both received the Outstanding Performance by a Male / Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture. My same picks for the Oscars.  Youn Yuh-jung made history as the first Korean actress to ever win the supporting actress category last night for “Minari”. A24′s stirring drama about a Korean American family settling in the rural South. Congrats girl, you are my pick for the Oscars too.  Daniel Kaluuya was honored for his extraordinary performance as activist Fred Hampton in “Judas and the Black Messiah.”

Did your picks win? Do you think this is a foreshadowing of the Oscars?  Let us know in the comments. Here at GVN we have a pool going and so far I’m not doing to bad. Here’s your full list of winners.
