Tom Cruise has found new life with the release of Top Gun: Maverick. Over the summer the film became one of the biggest films of all time and the biggest in Cruise’s career for sure. Currently the film sits at 5th all-time on the domestic list with $701.7 million and worldwide the film sits at $1.4 billion.

The original film came out in 1986 to modest success but the sequel has brought in new blood to go along with Cruise’s Maverick and their is excitement for the franchises future. Joining the new film were Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Jay Ellis and Danny Ramirez. Veteran actors Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris were cast as well.
One has to think that Paramount will try and build on the success of Top Gun: Maverick either with a TV series on Paramount+ or could a third film be in the works. While nothing has been confirmed, Jerry Bruckheimer has spoken on the possibility of a third film happening. We were recently told that Paramount is indeed planning a third film with the cast of Top Gun: Maverick set to return but the film also looks to add some new cast members.
Take all of this with a grain of salt as we are not able to confirm this outside what we have been told but we have heard that Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney is being eyed for a role in the film along with Alex A.J. Gardner and J. Alphonse Nicholson.

Sweeney is currently filming Sony’s Madame Web film. Alex Gardner has been rumored for a role as Iron Lad in an upcoming Marvel project but outside of that he has done very little acting. J. Alphonse Nicholson is known for his role on P-Valley.
As stated before, there is no doubt that Paramount will want to continue riding this huge wave of success but it remains to be seen when a third film might happen. If Cruise is to return then he would most likely want to get started on it as soon as possible. He has two more Mission: Impossible films coming out and there is the planned Les Grossman, Tropic Thunder, spin-off project plus another project he has coming up with director Christopher McQuarrie, so there is no timeline for when he would be available to do a third film.
Paramount could also do a third film with the cast of Maverick as the main focus and Cruise could be a cameo or have less screen time. The future of Top Gun is bright that is for sure. Will Sydney Sweeney, A.J. Gardner and J. Alphonse Nicholson be a part of that future? That remains to be seen.
