Crackle has announced that they will be premiering the “lost” Roger Corman action comedy Virtually Heroes for the first time exclusively on AVOD beginning August 1, 2023. The film made its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, but it remained unavailable for nearly a decade until Screen Media acquired the film and gave it a limited theatrical and digital release in late 2022. Now fans can stream the movie completely for free for the first time thanks to Crackle, the popular ad-supported streaming service.
The film evolved from Roger Corman’s desire to utilize his extensive library of stock footage to create a modern war film. Writers G.J. Echternkamp and Matt Yamashita drew heavily on Corman’s library to write their script, developing a video game world to justify the repurposed stock footage. The film stars Robert Baker (Supergirl), Brent Chase (Bosch), Katie Savoy (Sharktopus Vs. Pteracuda) and Mark Hamill.
GVN has been provided with a new trailer for this free streaming debut which you can find below:
Synopsis: Two self-aware characters in a Call of Duty-inspired video game battle endless supplies of Vietcong, absurdly powerful level bosses and their own existential crises. With the help of Mark Hamill’s Yoda-like monk, they attempt to win the game and get the girl.
