From the creators of Jessica Jones comes an all new Pearl issue, number seven in this collection. For anyone who has picked up an issue of Jessica Jones, the illustration style is very apparent in Pearl. The style of this comic is very scenic and almost gives off a noir feel, with its combination of thick and subtle lines and it’s choice of dark colors with blurred ones.

Pearl is in a particularly sticky situation, lying next to a man who is possibly responsible for some truly heinous crimes in her life. But, we get an idea that Pearl plays things close to the chest and it’s a teeter-totter of the task at hand and having to put on a facade.

What is really masterful in the way this story is told and its illustration is that you can truly feel like you are side by side with Pearl and you are on the streets, walking with her as she contemplates her situation at hand. While I didn’t find this issue particularly engaging, it still was something different than you see in graphic novels or comics. Pearl is a character who is not outwardly bitter, but she is rather on guard and calculating. There’s a lot of dialogue in this issue, all working towards what we will see next.

While I wouldn’t say you should run to the bookshelves once Pearl is released, I suggest, still; reading it for a street-level story with ties to the Yakuza. For those missing Jessica Jones, Pearl is a good substitute to fill that void and we can even see the similarities on each page.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”18187,18188,18190,18189,18191,18192″ img_size=”411×631″ speed=”3000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
