Director Jon Watts Has Not Signed on for Additional Spider-Man Films

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”28480″ img_size=”825×464″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Who else is surprised that the internet has survived now that Tom Holland is no longer a part of the MCU? Yesterday, it was announced that Sony and Disney could not reach an agreement on the future of Spider-Man, therefore ending Holland’s run (and Peter Parker’s) in the MCU for the foreseeable future. While this news is shocking and confusing, we had reports that Holland still has two films on his contract albeit they’ll be produced by Sony now.

Deadline had formally reported that director Jon Watts was still attached to these films, but Deadline has since updated their reports to say that the Far From Home director has not signed on:

“Sony is planning two more installments, though it is an open question whether those will include Jon Watts, director of the first two films guided creatively by [Kevin] Feige. Watts isn’t signed on for the next film and isn’t a certainty to be back as he is being heavily courted for other jobs. Could Sony find itself vying against Marvel for Watts’ future services as a director?,” Deadline writes.

Things will certainly be confusing. Not only will the MCU not have Spider-Man, but this means no mentions of Spider-Man. Should we forget everything that Peter Parker has been involved in and how he was set up to take up Tony Stark’s mantle? And how will he be explained in the Venom-Sony universe?

What are your thoughts about this debacle?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
