Disney’s Chief Alan Horn Looks to Possibly Push Several Fox Movies Out

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”10474″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]With the merger between Disney and Fox, it should be obvious that there will be some changes as far as Fox’s schedule prior to the merger, is concerned. It is essentially a spring cleaning, as Disney’s studio chief Alan Horn is looking at many projects that were in development prior to the deal made between the two companies.

Some of the projects that are being shelved are Mouse Guard, News of the World, and On the Come Up, as well as Ted Melfi’s Fruit Loops. These projects, except for Mouse Guard; all came from Elizabeth Gabler’s now-shuttered Fox 2000; Mouse Guard was reportedly too expensive for the company to make considering it wasn’t a franchise film.

On the plus side, the Kingsman prequel The Great Game, Fear Street, and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake are all moving forward. Free Guy is expected to begin shooting in the fall, as well as Death on the Nile. Avatar 2, which will be huge for Disney and Fox, will finish shooting on April 18th. Things though will change under Disney’s umbrella, such as the use of smoking in West Side Story – where Fox had no problem with this, Disney (a family friendly studio) is wondering if promoting young people smoking cigarettes on screen is something they want to show in 2019.

Horn stated:

“With Fox, we can make movies that right now I say no to … We always have to think about the smoking policy. The audience for a Disney movie may not know what they are going to see, but they know what they aren’t going to see,” Horn said in a recent interview with THR. “There are certain things we just can’t include because we’ll get letters.”

What do you think about the movies being pushed off Disney’s plate?
