Jungle Cruise is a fun film that has surely crossed your screens in the way of a trailer or advertisement. Disney has been advertising hard for its latest blockbuster hit and why wouldn’t they? With a cast like Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, you’d want to have audiences flock to it as well. So, who would have ever thought of a film between Johnson and Blunt where they go on a jungle adventure? According to a recent press day, Johnson describes that Blunt was the only one he wanted to play this role. He recalls a story where he sent director Jaume Collet-Serra a video to show Blunt when he met with her in New York. The twenty-five minute video (according to Johnson) had him express:
“You are the only one who can do this movie.”
The two then spoke about the great chemistry the two had on screen, with Johnson expressing:
“It’s very true. And then, uh, you know, you look-you hope to get lucky. I feel like I should talk to everybody, uh, but you hope to get lucky, uh, you know, with your cast, and you-you like to have-try to have some chemistry and is-Emily and I have been talking a lot about chemistry these past couple of weeks doing press, and a lot of times you-you, at times, you fake it, you know, cause you’re acting.”
It seemed Blunt agreed that the two of them had a great back and forth chemistry with each other.
Edgar Ramirez, who is a Venezuelan actor; and first time Disney movie star. When asked about his look in the film, Ramirez expressed:
“I mean it, I was very happy. I was very happy that those snakes weren’t anywhere near me during the shoot. I mean, I’m super-afraid of snakes, and we encountered some of them when we’re shooting in Atlanta, you know. Cause we were-I mean, we shot in real locations and we dressed them to look like the Amazon. It’s incredible. I come from an Amazonian country, and I saw the movie for the first time two days ago at the premiere. And guys…I’m so happy.”
Among all of the laughter and enjoyment for the film from the cast, Blunt took a moment to discuss the adventure of the film and how much of a world-builder it is:
“And was made in the spirit of the films that we all grew up watching. And just, I mainline those movies
into my veins. I just loved Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone, African Queen. Like, they are just joy bombs, and they’re nostalgic, and I think we just needed to pierce people’s hearts directly with the spirit of those films that we all loved as children. Um, and it just took a lot of tempering and beautiful conducting from Jaume who was just extraordinarily free-spirited with us…such a world-builder.”
Blunt continued:
“..which you need for those adventure movies. You need it. But I know when he and I first met Jaume, we both asked him the same question. And we said, ‘Well, what do you feel this movie’s about?’ And I always ask a filmmaker that before I’m about to sign on, cause I want to know what it’s all about. And he goes, ‘You know, it’s about love’. And it was so perfect.”
