The X-Men will be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point. When? We don’t know, but we can speculate. I previously wrote a piece on how I thought Jon Bernthal would make a good Wolverine. Now, I want to talk about another fan-casting for an equally iconic mutant in the Marvel world. Storm. This powerful woman was recently played by Alexandra Shipp and Haile Berry before that. Who can take the mantle and portray such a huge force when she’s introduced into the MCU?
My pick is American Gods’ Yetide Bakadi. I’m not the only one. Bakadi herself has expressed online, a few times; her desire to play Storm. On American Gods, Bakadi plays Bilquis. A sensual and strong goddess, it’s hard to not be captivated every time she commands the screen. When you are thinking of an actress to play Storm, you want someone who can take control of every scene she’s in. This is Bakadi and that is why I believe she would be absolutely perfect for this part. The X-Men’s introduction in the MCU is going to be a big deal and for the most part, Disney’s Marvel does a great job with casting. You want someone who may not necessarily be known to a mainstream audience, but who is extremely talented and could last in the franchise for a long time.

Bakadi is a Nigerian-born American actress who has small parts in shows like Criminal Minds, Masters of Sex, and NCI: New Orleans. On top of her steamy portrayal as Bilquis on American Gods, she has a recurring role on This is Us as Chi Chi. Every scene that she is in, she captivates. Every person she’s in a scene with, she has crazy chemistry with. There’s no doubt in my mind that she would be able to not only give us powerful scenes where she uses her abilities, but where she’d be able to dominate the screen no matter who she was sharing it with. And with Badaki, she would not just be a love interest for T’Challa, but a valuable member of a team we are all dying to see in the MCU.
Not only do I think that Badaki deserves this role, both because she has the talent and the look; but, because I do want the role to go to someone who truly wants it. Of course, we couldn’t imagine anyone else as Thor or anyone else as Loki as Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Both were not known by a wide mainstream audience. Now, they’re household names. And they both truly enjoy their characters. The same can be said for many in the MCU. I believe that with Badaki as Storm, we’re getting someone who wants to be there and will be there for a long time.
