Pablo Schreiber is known for many roles. He played Pornstache in Orange is the New Black, William Lewis in Law and Order: SVU, and Mad Sweeney in American Gods. One of his upcoming projects will be bringing the well-known video game character Master Chief to life in a Halo series. Which, was just moved from Showtime to Paramount+. We don’t know much about the show and even though I know virtually nothing about Halo, I’m still excited (because Schreiber is in it lol).
However, it seems a recent tweet from Schreiber has some fans reacting positively and negatively. In the video game series, Steve Downes voiced the character and his voice became iconic to Master Chief, especially since the character never shows his face.
What was the tweet that had fans divided? Well, it comes from Schreiber responding to someone expressing their excitement over Schreiber’s impression of Master Chief. To which he responded:
“I don’t do impressions, I play characters. While everyone knows the Master Chief, this show is an opportunity for all of us to get to know John. Thank you for your kind words. We are all working incredibly hard to bring something to the screen that everyone can get behind.”
Now, honestly, I don’t see what’s wrong with this. We’ve had a bunch of Jokers, all who did their own takes of the character. We all loved Mark Hamill’s Joker, but you don’t expect each one to be a carbon copy of his voice. However, people didn’t see it that way and some people were not too happy:
“I don’t do impressions” You are playing a already known and loved character🤷♂️ Ngl as a huge Halo fan I don’t think this show will work. I hope I’m wrong

Impressions and voices are part of playing a character lmao but do you. Master Chiefs voice was the most iconic part of him as a character.🤷♂️

Even though some people reacted negatively, some people expressed that they agreed with Schreiber and were excited for the show:
