For All Mankind Season 2 Episode 3: Emotional Walls Start to Break Down

Needless to say that everyone on Apple TV+’s For All Mankind has some sort of shared trauma. Whether it’s Gordo battling his inner demons, Danielle suffering the loss of her husband, or Ed not quite grappling with the death of his son, everyone has their emotional baggage. Some don’t face it head-on and that causes a lot of emotional weight that needs to be taken off.

There Were A Lot of Emotions

The biggest one is Ed. While it seems that Ed has moved on from the death of his son about ten years prior, it is very evident that he never gave himself the time to outwardly mourn. He continued to truck on. He has a high position in NASA. And he has a daughter to care for. Ed has always seemed like the typical stoic old timey man who has difficulty expressing or coming to terms with sadness. We see this boil to the surface in the last ten minutes of the episode in an emotionally charged explosion. Perfectly acted by all of the players involved.

What Does Ed Have Against Tracey?

While I really enjoy Ed’s character, the one thing that I’m having a problem with is his treatment of Tracey. We all remember how much Gordo fooled around behind Tracey’s back in season one. It was almost obvious that the two would split up. And it’s been five years since their divorce. I understand Ed’s loyalty to Gordo as they’re best friends, but they seem to be resentment harbored towards Tracey due to her remarrying. As Tracey said in episode one of this season, Ed never piped up when Gordo was being unfaithful to his wife.

Gordo’s Journey

Speaking about Gordo, I have to admit that he was never my favorite character. I never really regarded him as much, but I am enjoying the arc for him this season. Gordo is seemingly getting his head out of his ass after years of feeling invincible and royally taking for granted the amazing life and wife he had. We’re seeing him look as if he’s shaking off the years he’s spent zombified since season one. Going to the moon again is going to be difficult for Gordo and in reality, Ed should have never approved it. But, I think he’s going to finally feel ready to live again.

Rating: 4.5/5

Episode three was incredibly emotional. And it’s why I love this show so much. It’s much more than a show about space and the Cold war. Which, to be fair; seems as if it’s revving up to become a full war. International tensions are high and decisions made in this episode are not going to do anything to quell that temper.

I am looking forward to the next episode of For All Mankind. Are you?
