For All Mankind Season Two Episode Two: The OG Astronauts Try to Adjust to Life Away From The Moon

Alright, so I may not be the best at article titles, but I am just loving For All Mankind so much. I see other people talk about Apple TV+ shows like Servant, See, The Morning Show, but people don’t really speak about For All Mankind. And that’s unfortunate. You’re missing out. The second episode of season two just hit Apple TV+ today. And it’s a somber look at our OG astronauts. The crew that broke barriers in season one and made history. They were the ones living in the clouds – the ones accomplishing their dreams.

Now a decade has gone by. Most work desk jobs, others are coming home from the moon for the last time, and others are still struggling to cope with the fact that they’re not in space. It’s a bit of a somber reflection on what happens once your dreams have been achieved. What happens now? It reminds me of Halt and Catch Fire when Gordon told Joe that they were in the future. Everything they worked towards was here and Joe had to cope with the fact that that was it.

I know that’s a different show, but that’s what it reminds me of here. Ellen and Molly made strides being the first American women up in space. Now, both of them are on Earth – realizing how strange that feels. Danielle is dealing with tragedy and trying to fill it with wanting to go back up on the Moon. As she says, she’s tired of talking about the “good old days” – life is more than that, right?

And while Ed tries to seem as if he’s fine too, you know that denial is his main defense in combating these demons. Gordo is a self-reflection of Ed, he’s just openly grieving. While Ed is always the soldier. It’s a different look for all of our heroes and it’s sad in a way. But, also hopeful – knowing that we’re witnessing them all slowly emerge from their funk. It’s time to get back in the game.

Rating: 4/5

Episode two was very much the foundation of what we can expect going forward. There’s drama, a sense of adventure, and foreboding of consequences with the conflict with Russia. I can’t wait to watch more.
