With the seventh and last season of Game of Thrones coming next year, many of the actors who have been there through it all have begun to take stock of their experience and their remembrances. Rory McCann has played cynical and outspoken Sandor Clegane, aka the Hound, for six seasons. While speaking at the Tampa Bay Comic Con earlier last week, McCann spoke about what he thought was the Hound’s most emotionally demanding scene:
“I would say when the Hound went on the road trip with Arya and he started opening up about what happened to him with his burned face. That was a big thing for the Hound because guess what, he never ever told that story.”
It is the story of how his face was scarred and how the Mountain, the Hound’s older brother was responsible. It became a defining moment for the child who would become the Hound when his brother shoved his face into that fire. All over a toy that his brother never even wanted. Never before had he opened up about the incident and it’s both heartbreaking and surprising to hear him pour his heart out to Arya, who at that time was the last person who he would ever thought to share it with.
“There’s no way he would ever discuss that, especially to a little girl,” McCann continued. “So it was a massive thing. It was quite deep. I was touching on things that I hadn’t done before. It was a lot of work just to get that wound over. Hopefully it worked.”
Toward the end of his session with the fans, he was asked who The Hound would most like to kill. In true Hound fashion, he thought about it and said…no, he didn’t say The Mountain, that was too easy of a choice. He instead chose Joffrey.
“I would have loved to have killed Joffrey.” It would have been much slower, none of this poison thing. A real slow torture. Me and the Hound have got no time for bullies so yeah, it would’ve been him for sure.”
THAT sounds like The Hound we’ve come to know and love. Are you excited to see the final season of Game of Thrones? Will the Clegane Bowl meet up with the fans expectations? As always, GVNation is your place to talk about it.
