Game of Thrones Showrunners Step Away From Star Wars Trilogy to Work on Netflix Multi-Year Deal

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”31129″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Game of Thrones is a fan-favorite show, even despite the negative response towards the eighth and final season. Many surmised that the reason for the series’ lackluster final season was due in part to there not being any book reference, but also because showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss wanted to get to work on their Star Wars trilogy.

Now, the two have stepped away from the trilogy. They tell Deadline:

“There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.”

This comes after the two signed a $200 million multi-year deal with Netflix, which seems like the deciding factor for the two to walk away from Disney. Their first Star Wars movie was supposed to come out in 2022. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kenndy stated:

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

The statement from Benioff and Weiss continued:

“We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

What do you think about Benioff and Weiss stepping away from a Star Wars trilogy?
