Geek Vibes Interview with ‘Bright’ star Nadia Gray (EXCLUSIVE)

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3374″ img_size=”544×384″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]We got a chance to sit down and talk with the lovely and talented Nadia Gray (BrightEnd of Watchand she gave us some insight into how she got into acting, how she prepares for role and what it is like working with director David Ayer.

GV: When did you know that acting was something you wanted to do? Was there someone or something that inspired you?

For as long as I can remember I’ve idolized women and men in film. Growing up, movie watching was a big part of our household, so I fell in love with that world really early on. I very specifically remember watching the movie The Professional, and desperately wanted to be Natalie Portman! My love for her continues, of course!

GV: When you get a role, how do you prepare for it?

It’s comforting for me to always be off book so I’m not ever caught searching for words in a scene. Once I’ve got that down, it’s much easier to take chances and be creative in character development.

GV: You have worked with some amazing talent, Adam Sandler (Sandy Wexler), Charlie Sheen (Anger Management), Will Smith (Bright) – Can you briefly tell us what it was like acting alongside them?

A freaking dream! Absolutely surreal. It’s impossible not to be nervous around such star power but what they all had in common was their preparedness and approachability. They’re just straight up amazing. And I’m sure they are used to actors having nerves around them, so they were all as nice as could be!

GV: What is your dream role?

It’s a hard question to answer because there’s so much I want to do! I think one actor I really admire is Zoe Saldana. She’s built such an impressive career of characters that are perfectly balance in being strong and vulnerable. I’d love to do something physically challenging, and a bonus if it’s in the realm of Sci Fi!

GV: Do you have an actress or actor in mind that you would love to work with?

I’d really love to meet and work with Brie Larson. I love what an outspoken activist she is, and she’s crazy talented. I’m so psyched to see her as Captain Marvel and I think I’d offer up a limb to get the opportunity to work with her within that universe!

GV: What was it like working with director David Ayer? Did you learn a lot from him?

David is the absolute best. The man is an evil genius and probably the most talented person I’ve ever had the chance to work with. His emotional intelligence must be off the charts because the way he’s able to get in the mind of his actors and characters, was so incredible on set. Working for someone like that makes you a better actor.

GV: How would you describe your time on the set of Bright?

It was the best! I think there was a lot of pressure on Netflix and everyone involved making their first big budgeted film, but the atmosphere was nothing but positive and exciting as hell. It was a really, truly special project to have been a part of.

GV: How long did it take to do the makeup for your scene where you are pinned to the wall?

So long! It took a few hours to get that look down, but for me the silver lining was the elf ears! Is it weird that I miss them? – GV: Not weird at all and in fact I probably would have kept them.

GV: What was it like being able to play a bad ass assassin elf?

I’ve literally never felt cooler in my life. The flashback scenes of Larika being a bad girl were the most fun to shoot. I got to do my own stunts, and playing this all powerful being on top of that, was a ridiculously good time.

GV: Do you think there are any chances we might see you in sequel despite your characters fate?

Absolutely! All bets are off in the Bright world. Elves are hard to kill ya know?! Seriously though, I feel like nothing is impossible or improbable in the fantastical world they created. Fingers, toes, eyes, wings, tails – everything crossed!

GV: If given the opportunity to star in a Marvel or DC film which would it be and who would you want to play?

This is going to be such an annoying non answer, answer BUT it really is impossible to cherry pick even in my own dream scenario! I think every comic book character, female especially, is bad ass. And I’m such a fan, that it’s always exciting to see who ends up cast in what.

Nadia it has been an honor speaking with you and we thank you for your time. I hope to see you return for the Bright sequel and your future works.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
