With the final season appearing sometime next year, Game of Thrones fans are gradually learning to accept the fact that their favorite show is ending. However, it appears that the franchise’s creator isn’t among those who HAVE accepted it.
When speaking with Variety on the Emmys Red Carpet, George R. R. Martin was asked why it was decided that Game of Thrones would come to an end next year. According to him, he thought that the series could have had a much longer life, although the showrunners apparently didn’t necessarily agree.

As Martin went on to explain, (and he would know) the series left out quite a lot of content from his original novels, which if they [Benioff and Weiss] wanted to, would have theoretically helped the show carry on. Of course, it is also true had Martin finished his latest Game of Thrones novel, Benioff and Wise might have used THAT material. In the meantime, there are other Game of Thrones prequels in the works fo those who will want to continue in Westeros.
“We have five other shows – five prequels in development – that are based on other periods in the history of Westeros.” Martin continued. “Some of them just a hundred years before Game of Thrones, some of them 5000 years before Game of Thrones.”
Before that all transpires however, we have some unfinished business with a Night King, a Guy, a Girl, and some Dragons. Do you agree that Game of Thrones could have went on or do you think they are ending it in a good time frame, provided the final season is good? Share your thoughts of Westeros with us at GVNation.
