Last time on SFW vs. AWF Beach Brawl
When we last left Over the Ropes, Peacock’s Posse from the AWF had made a huge splash on SFW Explode. Which lead to a Unified Womans Title Match between Yuri and Scorch on SFW vs. AWF Beach Brawl. While Scorch won the battle and the belt, Yuri appeared to win the war, almost drowning Scorch in the pool outside the ring. This of course set off Phoenix, who in a fit of rage revealed what he had been trying to keep secret. His relationship with AWF Champion Buddy Peacock. Right where Wrestling Dirt Sheet owner Bill Feltman could hear him. Oops!
The Challenge
This was soon exposed to the public. Right after Jason, and his mother took Courtney to the hospital. Apparently, it took no time at all for Feltman to get put on TV to reveal the big news. But then, to add insult to injury, Buddy Peacock himself came on the show to confirm the family connection. Putting on a real emotional show while dragging Jason’s mother through the mud a little while he was at it. The natural conclusion was when he challenged his son to a ladder match for the Unified Heavyweight Championship.
A Mix of Lies and Truth
Seeing his mother dragged into the middle of this was more than Jason could take. Not that he needed much more motivation. He immediately left the hospital, despite of his mother’s insistence that he stayed for Courtney’s sake. In no time he stormed in to confront his dad, punching him in the face. It was nothing new for Peacock as he had provoked many such responses in his illustrious career. Besides, the drama was great for sales. Fans would fork over the money willingly to see the match. As for his mother, Peacock explained to Jason what experience teaches: “The Best Wrestling Angles contain a mix of lies and truth.”
Keeping the Heat
In the meantime, they would keep the momentum going on the next SFW show with a huge Battle Royal featuring father and son…eventually. But Phoenix would have time to wait. He would be the first in the ring. As all fighting champions should. Not sure what that says about Peacock. Regardless, the match would keep the heat going leading into their eventual huge confrontation.
After leaving Ricky Radison’s office, Jason ran into Billy Radison. He tried to talk to Jason, commenting on how he knew how it felt to be made to feel miserable. Jason, however, wasn’t having it. Billy had been just as guilty of making Jason miserable. In truth, Billy couldn’t disagree.
The Battle Royal
Before long, the SFW vs AWF Battle Royal was on. Over the top rope with both feet on the ground equaled elimination. Not that THOSE rules ever held firm. True to the plan, Phoenix started the match against Buddy Peacock’s bodyguard, Power Train. The battle was brutal from the start but just when it appeared Phoenix might have Power Train eliminated, Mexiko came to the ring next and makes the save. Preventing Power Train’s feet from touching the floor. Soon, it was two on one.
The Unexpected
As bad as it looked for Phoenix, it looked even worse when the next person down the aisle was Roll Tide Billy Radison. Certainly, no good blood between those two. But surprisingly, as it tends to happen in wrestling, Radison instead attacked the AWF squad. Although, they seemed as surprised as Phoenix. With the “tide” seeming to turn (yeah…I said it), it naturally meant any prelude to rules went out the window. Soon the tag team of Los Muertos came to the ring. Followed by Barbwire and Bomba, The Barbwire Bombs. As Jim Ross would no doubt say, “a real donnybrook” had commenced.
SWF Action
The action continued as more and more colorful performers entered the ring and just as many exited. The action was fast and furious as fans of SWF had come to expect. But just as might be expected, the very last contestant to enter was the 17-time champion Buddy Peacock. Although, enter was a stretch as he maintained his distance while the remaining combatants cleared the field.
Taking Advantage
Soon it was just Blue Bomba, Phoenix and Bomba’s brother Mexiko. It looked good for the former partners. At least until Jason did something that is considered a major insult to a Lucha Libre. He removed Mexiko’s mask. While Bomba and Jason had been like brothers themselves, he was stunned that Jason had removed his brother’s mask. So much so that he left the ring, eliminating himself. But before Jason could even think, the once reluctant champ had taken advantage of Phoenix’s inattention, slipped into the ring and threw him over the top. The winner of the Battle Royal was Buddy Peacock.
Forever
While Peacock enjoyed his victory, Phoenix decided to up the ante on their upcoming championship match. An added stipulation. The loser would leave wrestling…FOREVER! Not the first time that stipulation had been used in wrestling. But it certainly would bring their confrontation to an end. The stakes just got a lot higher!

Thoughts
Just when you thought that the action had reached a climax, Over the Ropes Issue 3 turned up the heat. In a big way. Writer Jay Sandlin and artist Antonello Cosentino have stepped in the ring and are making it their own. Combining classic wrestling dramatic storyline with hard hitting action that doesn’t seem to stop. Not to mention a myriad of possible wrestling plot twists.
Possible Plot Twists
Will Phoenix’s unmasking of Bomba’s brother cause an unrepairable rift between them? How will that effect the team of the Barbwire Bombs? Jason is like a son to Barbwire. Is there more to the Billy Radison/Jason relationship? This looks like a classic double cross in the works. Experience proves that the switch from Heel to Face and back can happen between commercials. Will Jason succumb only to find out the Radisons have a devious plot in the works?
For All the Marbles
Of course, all of it is leading to the grand showdown between Phoenix and Peacock. A loser leaves the business, Ladder Match with careers on the line. Talk about a main event! Once again, Sandlin and Cosentino have set us up for an explosive final two issues. Have you purchased YOUR tickets? If not, go to Mad Cave Studios Subscription Service and join into what will no doubt make Mad Cave and SFW/AWF history.
