New at the box office last week was Gretel & Hansel and The Rhythm Section. Neither was strong enough to beat out those Bad Boys, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence keeping it real at the top for three weeks now.
Super Bowl weekend is one of the hardest weekends for the box office. According to Comscore this year was the second-lowest in fifteen years. Coming in last for the week is The Rhythm Section. Blake Lively investigates the plane crash that killed her family. Not a good start for Paramount who spent fifty million on producing the film. Seems like they might be in the hole for this one. Reviews out were not good. Rhythm Section also only got thirty percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch.
Gretel and Hansel fared much better for opening weekend. They came in fourth after Dolittle. The retelling of the Brothers Grimm folklore made six million. Orion has already made a million dollars since production only cost five million. Fourth isn’t bad there are some good movies out right now.
As for the rest in the top ten this week. 1917 is holding strong at number two again this week. Universal’s Epic World War I film is now at the $119 million mark in the states.
Despite reviews, Dolittle is still number three. It’s a different take on a veterinarian who talks to animals. All the people I’ve talked to have like it. I love it. It’s great to see people are taking those reviews too seriously and keeping the animals alive at the box office. The Gentleman came in fifth. This movie was better than Dolittle. Two different types of movies but I really thought Gentleman would have stayed up longer in the top. The Rock is still rocking it coming in at 6th with Jumanji The Next Level. Star Wars fans are still out there. The Rise of Skywalker is still in the top 10 at number 7 this week. 8 this week is the Turning and Little Women handing on at 9.
Have a great week. We’ll see you at the movies this weekend.
Mamma, Mimi, Michele, call out any one of those names and I will answer. There are several hats on my shelf. My passions are photography, being outside, movies, tv, pop culture and anything haunted or spooky. People are my other interest, I love meeting new people and socializing. When I lived in Savannah GA I worked as a tour guide both haunted and historical tours. I met people from all over the world, that was the best part of the job. All of this I can write about too, that’s the beauty of being a writer.
