It has never been a better time to be a Marvel fan with a seemingly endless amount of content at your fingertips thanks to the streaming platform, Disney+, and theatrical movies. The streaming platform has given us WandaVision, Loki, and soon the upcoming series of Hawkeye which will be gracing our TV and tablet screens on November 24, 2021. These shows have allowed fans to experience new breath and life given to characters that have often been left out of the spotlight in the past in the film and TV world.
Hailee Steinfeld was cast as Kate Bishop, a young archer who sees Hawkeye as a role model and mentor, for the series. Steinfeld took getting into character very seriously and was inspired to actually take up archery in her real life. Recently she proudly told Empire:
“My archery is now quite good. Kate is self-taught, and it was important to me to take it on myself–to be there by the time we started shooting. Kate wants to do good. She has this burning desire to follow in Hawkeye’s footsteps. She has idolized this person forever, and then she finds herself on this wild ride with him.”
With the pride and care Steinfeld is taking in bringing this character to life, it is obvious she respects and cares about her. The situation is reminiscent of when The Hunger Games first came to the big screen; the rise in the interest of archery, particularly among young women, increased almost overnight thanks to Katniss Everdeen. It would be interesting to see if Kate Bishop’s character inspires a second wave of interest. It will be a lot of fun seeing Hailee Steinfeld’s real archery skills in action soon.

When I’m not busy daydreaming or having an existential crisis, I can usually be found watching a movie or TV, listening to music or a podcast, or with my nose in a book.
