Hellboy (2019) Gets Its First Trailer (REVIEW)

Ron Perlman will always have a place in our hearts as Hellboy and nothing can take that away from him. But, with new time comes new adaptations and David Harbour’s 2019 just released a trailer for the reboot. We’ve gotten, over time; pictures here and there, but now the first official trailer has hit, setting the tone of what we can expect with this new rendition. Based off a comic-book series, Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, were both done by Guillermo del Toro and done in typical fashion by the director, who we all love. Perlman’s Hellboy was sardonic, sarcastic, and exactly what we needed from the character.

How does David Harbour fair?

After that trailer, I’d say he fairs quite well. While the previous two Hellboys were a darker, more serious tone, and I’m sure there will be some disappointed and surprised that the reboot is not following in the same direction, I was if anything, pleasantly surprised by the trailer. First of all, any time you have Billy Idol in something, I’m going to immediately swoon. Mony Mony was a perfect song to let the audiences know that this is not Perlman’s/del Toro’s Hellboy. It’s Harbour’s and Neil Marshall’s. I’m not going to sit here and be rooted in what was done, but rather look towards the future and enjoy this new take on the beloved character.

Hellboy 2019 looks to be a sarcastic, witty action-packed film that is taking a similar approach to such movies as Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad. While neither of these films are everyone’s cup of tea, I personally love it, and I’m glad to see them not taking themselves so seriously. It’s a movie about a giant red monster fighting against other monsters and from the looks of it, it’s going to be full of witty banter. We’ve already seen Harbour’s acting capability, so the one thing we will have to look out for is making sure that can pierce the pounds of makeup he’s under. The face they’ve constructed onto Harbour looks more defined than Perlman’s and it is a little much to get used to, but overall, I love the hair, the look, the soundtrack so far, and everything else in between.

Hellboy will hit theaters April 12, 2019 and will star David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and is directed by Neil Marshall.
