Hobbs & Shaw’s Dwayne Johnson Talks Keanu Reeves’ Potential Role That Ended Up Not Working Out

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”27643″ img_size=”798×420″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]For those hoping Keanu Reeves would be in Hobbs & Shaw, the actor is unfortunately not. But, co-star Dwayne Johnson detailed what Reeves’ role would have been in the film and why things didn’t work out.

In Hobbs & Shaw, Johnson and Jason Statham begrudgingly team up together in order to “save the world”. They go toe to toe with an M16 agent who has turned into the terrorist Brixton Lore (Idris Elba). Lore has been supped up with cybernetic implants and works for this techno-terrorist organization called Eteon. The mysterious Director can be heard as a heavily-processed voice in the film.

Johnson explains to Screen Rant that it was intended for Reeves to be the mysterious director of Eteon, but things didn’t work out:

“And then what we also did at the end was we left the ominous voice faceless. So, for some time, I think you guys have heard the rumor that it was going to be a bit of a John Wick, all disguised. But then we left it there [with] a few people in mind. Originally, Keanu was the goal. We were talking, and it just didn’t feel right creatively. …He and I talked, and I totally got it. And it wound up being the best thing, so now we leave that open for the future.”

Johnson didn’t divulge into why this didn’t feel like the right decision, but if there’s a sequel maybe there will be time to develop a role for Reeves in this franchise? Would you like to have seen Reeves in Hobbs & Shaw? Let us know![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
