Horror Movie Franchises That Would Make Great Video Games

There is no lack of horror-themed entertainment out there, and people often come up with newer and innovative ideas to scare people. With that said, some of these horror movie franchises should really venture into the world of video games. It’s such a no-brainer move if you ask us.

Sidenote: if you want to experience these horror movies again to give you a clearer picture of how they could work as a video game, we encourage you to go get some iTunes Gift Cards as most of them can be found on iTunes!

Here are some samples of those franchises that we think should try their hand at video games.

The Purge

Imagine a video game where you get to experience the Purge and get to choose your own storyline – whether it is to hunt people down on a murderous rampage or to protect yourself in your own home as looters break in and try to kill you. The adrenaline rush and endless storyline possibilities make The Purge a good idea for a video game franchise if they choose to make one.

In fact, they can create a game based on each movie if they want to have some sort of storyline to it. A multiplayer mode where you could experience a purge with your friends could be an exciting idea as well.

A Quiet Place

A game where you can’t make a sound in a world that can be amazingly loud, a game of stealth and silence as you go around trying to survive. Essentially A Quiet Place is a good idea for a survival horror game with the manipulation of sound. Not to mention the terrifying monsters that inhabit the world and a glimpse of the upcoming monsters/horrors that are coming in the movie’s sequel in 2021.

If John Krasinski ever decides to make a video game out of his movies, we trust that he would be meticulous about the experience as he was in directing his movies. Honestly, nobody realizes how silence can be so loud until this movie came along and we’re sure it would make an amazing post-apocalyptic horror survival video game.

IT

A long-standing franchise that we’re surprised hasn’t gotten a video game made about just yet. Especially with their recent movie release about two years ago, which made a huge profit worldwide. A video game about a demonic evil clown chasing people around in their worst fears sounds like a good idea for a video game (as it was for a movie).

Aside from that, there’s a potential for the storyline to be expanded further based on characters as each character in the movie has their own background and situations that they go through. There’s so much potential for our favorite psychotic clown to be realized into a video game and just the idea of it excites us.

Candyman

The only thing sweet about this franchise is its name. A movie franchise that went on to become a cult favorite amongst horror enthusiasts, Candyman presents an interesting idea for a psychological horror video game that would have its own dedicated following within the community.

For those unfamiliar with the movie, it is a story based on a short story by Clive Barker that revolves around a myth that if you say his name in a mirror five times, the Candyman will appear to terrorize and kill you. Similar to the concept of Bloody Mary except the main character will turn psychotic in the process. A truly gruesome movie, if turned into a game with today’s graphics could make people throw up in fear.

Hellraiser

A lot of people have been clamoring about making a Hellraiser video game for a long time now, so there’s no surprise that it’s on this list. In fact, a Hellraiser strategy/puzzle game would be an interesting idea to explore where players are thrown into a mind game of sorts with their lives on the line.

Not to mention having a villain as cool as Pinhead realized in a video game would be a dream come true to some. With the wreck of the movie franchise, perhaps it’s time Hellraiser is given a new life in the form of a video game.

Final Destination

If you’ve watched or even heard of the Final Destination movies you would know why it would make such a good video game. The unpredictability of it all, the slapstick drama that ensues it is something that would be fun to experience in a game. Who would’ve thought that there are so many ways we could accidentally die?

We’re certain that the Final Destination series could make a fun game, and there are different modes that could be made for the game as well. Imagine a builder’s mode where you get to plan traps and create your own monstrous ‘accidents’ that other players could have a run-through of. A multiplayer mode of you and your friends trying to avoid traps and ‘accidents’ while attempting challenges would be a fun idea.

The Haunting of Hill House

Admittedly, this is not a movie franchise but a series, but we can’t help but include it in the list so bear with us. The Haunting of Hill House was a masterpiece horror series that has layers to its storytelling. It would make an amazing story-driven game, perhaps even an RPG or a visual novel game.

Players could learn the history of the house and solve the mysteries that lie behind their walls. Not to mention the various ghosts tied to the story and the plot twists that could ensure a good time for players. In fact, when players are done with Hill House, they could move on to the second part: Bly Manor.

To Sum Up

Honestly, there are probably many more horror movie franchises out there that deserve to be made into video games but these are just some of our humble opinions. If you have your own video game ideas, feel free to let us know in the comments below!
