Do you like playing video games?

Don’t worry. It’s a rhetoric question. Who doesn’t? There are over 2.3 billion gamers in the world, and the gaming sector is, by far, one of the most profitable industries out there.

    Source

According to Statista, US consumers alone spent a cumulative 43.4 billion USD in 2018 on gaming. These gamers belonged to every age group.

As per the Entertainment Software Association, in the same year, over 166 million adults played video games. The highest age group found playing the games is 30-34 years. It is contrary to the popular belief that video gaming is for children and teens only.

But, playing video games doesn’t always translate to being an avid gamer and especially considering the challenging gameplay and competitiveness of the modern gaming world.

Whether it be multiplayer games or a brain-training app, here are ways you can improve your skills if you are new to the world of gaming.

    Know your niche

You might have heard of the famous adage, “Jack of all trades, master of none.”

It is true in the world of gaming as well. If you strive to be a better gamer, you must pick your niche. It is because if you try to play every game, you will end up being mediocre, if not downright bad, in all of them!

The trick to improving your gaming skills is picking a niche and practicing hard to excel in it. Just because PUBG is a new fad right now doesn’t mean it is the game for you.

Decide which type of games you enjoy. For instance, let’s say you enjoy playing sports. Now that you know your niche, you can begin playing different games like FIFA, WWE, or Ice Hockey. The list goes on! Just because you have chosen on category, doesn’t mean you will have limited choices.

    Start easy

Before you delve into the world of gaming, you must first get yourself used to the functionality of playing games. For example, you need to improve your hand-eye coordination as well as your speed. After all, in the world of competitive gaming, the two skills are critical for success.

A good way to horn your gaming skills is to start with beginner-level games. For this, online gaming platforms are a good place to start.

For example, online gaming platforms like Unlimited Gamez Mo feature a wide variety of games, including adventure, arcade, and strategy. These games have simple gameplay and are super easy to play, especially if you are a beginner.

Before jumping on to complex games like Counter-Strike, Fornite, or PUBG, you can improve your skills by playing simple shooting games. This way, you will get trained about the basics of shooting games, and you won’t feel overwhelmed when you switch to advanced games.

    Have the right gadgets

You will be surprised to learn how much your performance in video games improves when you are equipped with the right gadgets.

To make sure that your gaming experience is smooth, you should have the right kind of gadgets. For instance, certain laptops and desktops are specifically designed for gamers. These have the CPU and graphic cards, which help ensure that the game doesn’t lag.

Similarly, gaming keyboards are more comfortable when playing as compared to ordinary ones. Do your research and find the right keyboard. However, this is only applicable to those who play using the PC. According to PC Games, this accounts for 35 percent of Americans.

For those of you who use consoles, you don’t need to worry about finding the right gadgets since you already have it.

    Learn from professional gamers

Did you know eSports is an actual thriving market? Professional gamers compete against one another and live-stream their matches for the world to watch.

As per Statista, the size of this e-sports audience in 2020 is 495 million. It also generates significant revenue.

    Source

As a beginner, you can learn a lot about playing video games by watching others in action. How so? Well, you can analyze how professionals deal with certain obstacles in the game or how they react during different situations.

In the case of strategy games, this can help you immensely in understanding the level of problem-solving required.

Observe how gamers anticipate and react to their opponents. Identify the tricks they use and incorporate them into your own game. It will take some time to perfect, but having the right hacks will surely help.

    Focus

Just like when you are studying or doing an important task, gaming also requires your complete attention. You must remove any distractions from your surroundings.

Whether it be music, people, or food, there should be nothing to divert your attention from the game. Now, this might not be appreciated by your family, so gear up for some resistance.

    Why is this important?

It is because research has proven that multitasking is not good for the brain, nor does it improve performance. Multitasking can be something as simple as background music as well.

Moreover, make sure that your screen’s brightness is adjusted to an optimal level. It can vary according to your comfort level. For some, it can be the maximum level, and for others, it can be the mid-level brightness.

There are various mental exercises as well that you can use to boost your focus.

Ending Remarks: It is time to play

It is always daunting to acquire a new skill as a beginner, be it gaming or any other craft in the world.

However, the good news is that there is nothing to worry about. You might be a beginner today, but with practice, you can surely become a professional in the future.

So, choose your niche and begin with the easiest game within the category. Learn from other gamers and find the right gadgets for your gaming activity. Finally, whenever playing, focus on the game at hand.

With all these tips, you are ready to enter into the gaming world. Good luck!

For those of you who are professional gamers, feel free to let us know of any other tips that will help your fellow gamers who are just starting.
