No one fulfilled the “evil” part better than Ian McDiarmid, who portrayed the twisted Emperor Palpatine. You remember him? He’s the leader that commanded the slaughter of almost every Jedi in the galaxy with Order 66, in Star Wars — Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. But according to McDiarmid, it could have been a lot worse as the original scene featured a “more gruesome” Jedi-killing sequence.

“I think it was a little more gruesome than you ended up seeing, you know. A lot of young potential Jedi ended up on the cutting room floor,” McDiarmid said during a panel appearance at Salt Lake City’s FanX convention over the weekend, explaining the toned down scene was “probably a good idea” to avoid a harsher rating.

As it was, it was the first Star Wars movie that earned the PG-13 rating. Due in no small part to the scenes of young Jedi being slaughtered. McDiarmid also recalled a discussion with George Lucas about the scene and his thoughts about why it was important for viewers to see it. Per the actor, Lucas said:

“On the other hand, George says, ‘That’s what he’s like, this guy, he’s uncompromising. People should know it.’”

Would a more gruesome scene when the young Jedi’s are killed by Anakin been acceptable to you? Perhaps you felt the scene was more the graphic enough and it was as it should be. Share your opinions with us at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
