Candace Cameron Bure is best known for her role as D. J. Tanner on the hit pop culture show Full House and the sequel series Fuller House. In a recent interview with our associates over at the Kinda Nerdy Girls, Bure stops by to talk about the popular show and promote her new movie Unsung Hero.
Unsung Hero is the true story of the real-life Christian pop duo For King & Country, which was released on April 26th.
Below is an excerpt of the full interview:
Cameron: Yeah, it’s such a beautiful story. I’ve been a fan of their music for so long and I never knew their humble beginnings. So the story takes you from when they immigrated from Australia to the U.S. and really had nothing to their name. Their dad had a business deal that went sour and lost everything. And the movie takes you through the journey of their family starting over. And there are so many hardships and hills that they have to literally climb just to get food on the table every day. And yet so many miracles happened in this movie. And their mom really made it an adventure for the seven kids like not knowing what tomorrow would bring and this movie is so filled with hope and inspiration and it’s a tribute to moms everywhere and I believe that she’s the true unsung hero of the movie, but it’s also set back in the 90s. It has incredible music and it’s just a movie that you, I know you’re gonna love it. It’s so beautiful. You can take the whole family to watch and just be encouraged and walk out feeling great.
KJ: You know, I was thinking about, you know, the story you’re talking about. I think there’s been something that’s been a bit lost in the digital world of just being able to download songs that we, we forget that these artists are, you know, they’re, they’re chasing their dream. And some of us, you know, we, like you said, you’re a fan of the music. I mean, who doesn’t love, For King & Country? Connecting to their music and learning their story. Is that, you know, why you decided, like you met them and decided the story needs to get out there?
Cameron: Yeah, that’s exactly it. I met them about eight years ago when I was a co-host on The View, and they came and performed live on the show. It was such an amazing moment for me to have a Christian band that was on national television performing. We became instant friends and started a family friendship, and I’ve known them now for some time. And then a couple years ago, they said, I think we want to tell our story and make it into a movie. And we sat down and had a meeting. They had sent me the script and it was just phenomenal. I was absolutely blown away. So this, you know, I’ve been in family entertainment for virtually my whole career. It’s what I’ve chosen to stay in. And these are absolutely the types of stories that I want to tell and will continue to tell. So after reading that script, I was like, I’m all in and my production company was the first to sign on, and then I’m also in the film. I have a little part, but playing a real influential person in their life that was an answer to prayer through their community and church.
KJ: Well, and it sounds like Unsung Hero might be a good movie for this family to watch and get inspired. What do you hope, Candace, people are gonna be watching this movie that you have put so much heart into, what are you hoping we take away from it?
Cameron: Well, there’s a great quote at the end of the movie and it says, if you wanna change the world, go home and love your family. And that is the heart of this movie and so I hope that you will see this and be inspired and walk away going, man, I want to be a better mom or a better friend, a better coworker, a better kid. Whatever you are in that stage of life, I feel like this movie will change you, or at least it’ll make you think about it. It’s pretty inspiring.
