Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption came out in 2010 and since then, it’s been widely hailed as one of the best open-world games from the third generation of console gaming. RDR’s success was only trumped by its successor, Red Dead Redemption 2 (which was released in 2018). Still, many gaming fans love the first RDR and with Rockstar Games having released its definitive edition of GTA III, GTA: Los Santos, and GTA: Vice City, fans wondered if the same would be said of its western counterpart.
While Rockstar Games has not confirmed anything, there have been rumors for a while that a remaster or remake of Red Dead Redemption was planned. There were even rumors that the disappointment over the GTA “remasters” halted Rockstar’s plans to remaster RDR and GTA IV. However, fans may have a slight glimmer of hope. Or, at the very least, Rockstar has piqued their curiosity.
Rockstar Games released a simple tweet today (or are we calling it ‘X’?). Rockstar Games Presents: Red Dead Redemption.

Now, what does this mean? As established before, Rockstar Games released RDR in 2010. So, this is not new. What are they saying? If they were announcing a third installment of this franchise (because, yes please) then wouldn’t they allude to the fact that it’d be the third one? No, Rockstar Games simply said Red Dead Redemption. They even added a hashtag #RDR. What does this mean?
Well, it’s certainly getting people talking. Along with this article, there are other outlets also surmising the meaning behind this tweet. Rockstar Games, are we getting a remaster or remake version of Red Dead Redemption? While people still play RDR and even some prefer it more than RDR2, you cannot deny the beauty in the graphics of RDR2. The second Red Dead Redemption came out in 2018 and the graphics are still better than many games that come out today. A remaster or remake of the original would be gorgeous. Just…don’t do what you did with the GTA Definitive Edition.
Speaking of GTA, fans are eager to get their hands on the sixth Grand Theft Auto. It’s been ten years since we got GTA V and there’s no definitive date for when a sixth one will come out. It was only up until recently that the studio even announced that a sixth one was in the works. So, is Rockstar Games announcing something like Red Dead Redemption to satisfy people’s cravings for their style of open-world games? Or is this why we’ve had to wait for GTA VI for so long – because they’ve been working on a new RDR project?
Time will tell, but this little teaser is certainly something to chew on. Red Dead Redemption is pretty damn perfect, but with updated graphics and a more polished control system, people could definitely replay John Marston’s story with renewed excitement. Personally, a third Red Dead Redemption would also be nice, but a remastered version of the first one is something to be excited about.
What do you think? Are you hoping Rockstar Games will announce a remastered version of RDR? Let us know!
