James Gunn Reveals the Origins of ‘The Suicide Squad’ Title

When 2016’s Suicide Squad sequel was announced as The Suicide Squad, we all scratched our heads. It seemed like an unreal name for a sequel and a bit confusing in regards to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film. It’s especially a little confusing considering fans now are demanding a director’s cut version of Ayer’s Suicide Squad, when James Gunn’s version, The Suicide Squad; is set to come out next.

Gunn has cleared up where the origins of the sequel’s name came from. Which, was pretty much a joke:

“I brought it up kiddingly once and Warners and the producers liked it. There’s not much chance of changing it, but you never know.” For now, that’s the official title and it is pretty refreshing in the days of long names, though it could confuse some people with David Ayer’s 2016 movie Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad is in post-production, with Gunn editing it from his home. There aren’t any murmurs of reshoots, but the movie won’t hit theaters until next summer. This gives plenty of time for reshoots, if the movie needs it. For now, we’ll have to try to not confuse Ayer’s film with Gunn’s and perhaps refer to the movie’s as which director is helming it.

Are you excited for The Suicide Squad?
