If there are two groups who are ready for the coronavirus to go away, it’s the movie fans and the studios. The fan’s because there so many potentially good films on the horizon. While the studio’s know that a film not in the theater doesn’t have near the chance of recouping it’s investment. So in the case of BlumHouse’s Halloween Kills, they have been in kind of a holding pattern. The film is scheduled to be released on October 16th. But the uncertainty due to the virus makes them hesitant to put anything in concrete. That includes releasing the film’s trailer.
Recently, Jason Blum explained the reasons for the studio’s hesitation and why the are playing the wait and see game.
The reason [a trailer] hasn’t come out yet is because we don’t know what the world is going to look like in October. Right now, we’re still planning on releasing the movie in October, but if there’s no way to release it [theatrically], then we’re not sure. So we’re not going to release the trailer until we really are very sure when people are going to get to see the movie. So that’s the hold-up. But we have a great trailer and a great movie, and I can’t wait for everybody to see it.
It is the hope of all involved that if everything works according to plan, the theaters can reopen and Halloween Kills will be able to be released as planned. Because if it does as well as the last Halloween Film, it will make both fans and the studio happy. Are you ready for the next chapter in the Halloween Saga?
