[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”24519″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]When Netflix canceled all of the Netflix Marvel shows, we all just assumed that this was Netflix’s doing. Now that Cloak and Dagger has reportedly been canceled, the Ghost Rider show axed at Hulu before it could even be developed, and presumably The Runaways the next to go, where is Marvel TV? Agents of SHIELD is ending, Legion ended, The Gifted ended, and well…that’s that. Is there a bigger player here? Was this all a part of the plan and we just didn’t know it? Are we freaking out for nothing and we should not worry? Won’t we see these characters again in either the movies in the MCU or Disney+?
Frankly, we don’t know. But, one actor I (and others) would love to see return as their characters is Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. At a recent convention, Bernthal talked about still loving playing The Punisher and how he’d love to do so again:
“I love Frank, too. I really don’t have any desire to move off of him.”
Bernthal also added, since there seem to be rumors (that are not backed up) that Bernthal could appear in an MCU movie:
“I mean, you know I can’t talk about that.” Bernthal laughed.
He added:
“And like, by the way, honestly, y’all will know before me. They don’t tell me sh-t. It’s all about Frank. He needs to be portrayed in a very certain way, in my opinion, and he means so much to so many people in the comic book community, and the law enforcement community, and the military community. In my opinion, you don’t just do a Punisher, you don’t just do a Frank Castle thing, you know? You gotta do it right, and you gotta respect what he stands for, what he’s all about. To me, if that works out, then I’ll jump in with everything I have. And if not, I’m not gonna.”
Bernthal was then asked what DC character he may want to play:
“Sh-t, I don’t know. I don’t know, I really don’t know. I really don’t know. And I think a lot of it, people ask me all the time, ‘How do you pick stuff, and what do you want to play?’”
He added:
“There’s nobody who comes up here and does this for a living that didn’t struggle for a long time, and didn’t have a lot of doors slammed in their face. And I had every kind of door you can imagine slammed in my face,” he said. “I got a giant-ass nose, I got big ol’ floppy ears, people are like, ‘It is never gonna work for you.’ I remember going into auditions and casting directors never even looking up from their phone, and they wanted nothing to do with me. That’s hard. There’s times where you go long periods of time, the phone doesn’t ring, and I know what that’s like. It’s a reality of this kind of work. But the cool thing is, that great thing, that great job, that great love, that’s out there.”
“I don’t know what’s out there, and that’s part of the thing that I love about it. I don’t know what the next great thing is, so I don’t have my eyes on, ‘I want to play the Hulk,’ or some sh-t like that,” he continued. “If something comes to me, and it’s written well, and it’s with people I really want to roll with, I’m gonna roll. And if it’s not, I’m not gonna do it. … I don’t have my eyes on any of them, but if something cool came around, let’s talk about it.”
Would you want to see Bernthal return as Frank Castle and which DC character would you want him to play?
