‘Justice League’ Shoot Was Deciding Factor For Ben Affleck Stepping Away As Batman

Before Matt Reeves was director of The Batman, that title belonged to Ben Affleck. Fans were so eager to see a stand alone Batman film starring and directed by Ben Affleck. Today Affleck still stands as one of the most popular actors to don the cape and cowl and there is a group still hoping to see the actor return someday. Sadly that day will most likely never happen. WB hired Matt Reeves to take over the Batman and while Affleck was “reportedly attached”, signs where there that Affleck was done.

The New York Times caught up with Ben for a very in-depth interview where the actor laid it all out there. From his failed marriage to Jennifer Garner, to his stint in rehab, making his way back and of course his time as Batman. Affleck tells The NYT that it was during the shoot for Justice League that he decided his time as Batman was over.

after deciding that the troubled shoot for “Justice League” had sapped his interest. Affleck never seemed to enjoy his time as Batman; his sullen demeanor while promoting “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 2016 resulted in the hit meme Sad Affleck. “I showed somebody ‘The Batman’ script,” Affleck recalled. “They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went though again.”

Affleck was hounded by questions about his Batman movie while trying to promote Live By Night and the actor just seemed to never be able to avoid the pressures that comes with being one of the worlds most popular superheroes. Ben had much more important issues going on as well including issues with his marriage and all that seemed to weigh on him. Ben does look much better and seems to be doing better. His new film, The Way Back, is set to release on March 6.

Justice League bombed at the box office and fans have rallied on Twitter and other forms of social media for the Snyder Cut. Though we all would love to see Justice League the way it was meant to be seen, even Ben has asked for WB to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, it will not bring Affleck back. Robert Pattinson is the new Batman and a new trilogy for the Caped Crusader will kick off in 2021.
