Kit Harington Was “ Slightly Pissed Off” About The Events of The ‘Long Night’

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”21382″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]As pretty much all Game of Thrones fans know by now, last week’s The Long Night, saw the battle for Winterfell and the demise of the Night King. This was due in no small part to the ambidextrous Arya Stark. While it was a twist, it was not totally unexpected. Especially for those who have seen Arya grow up as a small girl who wanted to be a Knight and turn into a skilled, silent assassin. While most have extolled the way the episode ended, not everyone was happy how things went down during the battle. This includes Kit Harington, but not for the reason you might think.

In a interview before the season premier with Entertainment Weekly, Harington expressed some irritation about Jon not being on the ground more in the episode. With his recent reveal as a Dragon rider, Jon spent some of his time in the air on Rhaegal during the beginning of the battle. Harington admitted to the cool factor of it all, but he would have rather been slogging in the mud and the blood on the ground. (Apparently, he hadn’t gotten his fill of that in “Battle of the Bastards.”) Kit explained:

I was slightly pissed off I was on a dragon, it stops me from fighting in a crowd. It’s going to look cool but I wanted, in some ways — just as Jon does — to get back down on the ground. The fact he can fly a dragon means he has to, but his place is down there amongst the sword swingers. But that whole episode should be mesmerizing.

He probably was disappointed he didn’t get to do his signature spin and slash move with Long Claw. However, in spite of Harington’s frustrations with “The Long Night,” he says the next episode of the series is his favorite of the final season.

One of my favorite episodes is four because the characters have seemingly got what they needed. The world is safe now. They’re celebrating and saying goodbye to lost friends. But as an audience you’re going, ‘This is only episode four, something’s going to happen.’ And that’s the cool thing because I think the characters are aware of this as well. There’s something twisted and uncomfortable about it. It’s so Shakespearian.

So with the battle against the dead now in the rear view mirror, our heroes get a chance to pause and celebrate their victory. Unfortunately, they must also mourn and bury (burn) their dead. However, there’s no rest for the weary. They must prepare for the next stage of the campaign, the taking of The Iron Throne. How about it Game of a Thrones fan’s? Would you have rather seen more of Jon on the ground hacking at the undead?  Perhaps you were more than happy to see him fulfill his Targaryen birthright and fly on Rhaegal?
