The idea of a Kraven the Hunter movie has been bounced around the airways for some time now, with Colombia Pictures president Sanford Panitch having given out some heavy-handed non-answers in recent interviews.
The hiring of Richard Wenk would seem to solidify Sony’s efforts and, in all, brings the world one step closer to enjoying a Kraven-centric movie.
For those who are not familiar with the Kraven mythos, he was one of Spider-Man’s archnemeses; a highly skilled and well-trained hunter keen on hunting down prey of all shapes and sizes with his bare hands.
To this end, Spider-Man became his penultimate prey as Kraven repeatedly attempted to capture everyone’s favorite web-slinger through their entire run as hero and villain. With Kraven’s mystical-serum-enhanced strength, he nearly succeeded in this goal on several occasions.
Often touted as a ridiculous or unbelievable villain, Kraven did redeem himself during the
Kraven’s Last Hunt storyarc, written by J.M. DeMattis in the 1980s, that was widely considered one of the best Spider-Man stories to date.
Regardless of this historic notoriety, Sony will have to play their cards entirely right to succeed in a Kraven-only movie without it coming across as either over-the-top or boring.
Movies within the same universe include the up-and-coming Venom, slated to release on October 5 of this year, and the potential for another Spider-Man villain-centric title based on the character of Mysterio.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
