Leave it to George R.R. Martin to be a Drag On Fans Expectations

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”10509″ img_size=”750×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]As news continues to be revealed about the impending prequel to Game of Thrones, fans had high hopes that at least part of the story would focus on the Targaryen line and the possibility of more Dragons being seen. Well unfortunately, the man behind the whole Game of Thrones saga, George R.R.Martin has recently revealed in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly that is likely not to happen at least not in the “Long Night” he envisions. He expounded on what to expect and what NOT to expect:

There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.

That would seem to preclude the appearance of Targaryens or Dragons but let’s not concede too soon. According to the synopsis written for the series, it appeared to warn viewers that historical events that they might believe they know could be proven as inaccurate.

Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour… And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.

So if one is to take that at face value, there might be some reason for optimism if you are a fan of the Targaryens or their Dragons. Just don’t tell George R.R. Martin.

What do you hope to see in the Game of Thrones Prequel? Does it matter if there are Dragons or Targaryens or would you prefer to see some of the history that you are not familiar with? If that is your desire, then according to Martin, your wishes will come true. Share what your hopes are with us at GVNation.
