‘Loki’ Episode 4 Review: Uncovering the Truth (And More Lies)

Happy Wednesday! With another week comes another episode of Loki and things are getting intense at the TVA. Last we saw our Loki variants, they were on Laminitis, staring down the apocalypse. While sitting on a planet that’s ready to implode doesn’t sound like everyone’s definition of a good time, it’s where the story picks up. From there, things only start to unravel.

Slight Spoilers

We learned in the previous episode that every member of the TVA was not created by this mysterious Time-Keepers as previously thought. Instead, they’re all variants. And for the God of Mischief and lies, Loki is keen to ensure that everyone knows the truth. With the truth comes mental freedom, but all of our enlightened characters are going to have to make it out alive if they wish to do anything with their mental chains off.

I was happy to see us return to the TVA. The pacing of this episode was good – it was equal parts intense, calm, revealing, and with some humorous bits – though, they didn’t last long. Instead, episode four focused more on making sure that our main players started uncovering the truth of what they are. And who the Time-Keepers really are. We may not fully know by the end of the episode, but we’re getting closer. And as we get closer, so do the Loki variants. Which, as you can imagine; makes the TVA very anxious.

As usual, I enjoyed Loki and Mobius’s interactions with each other. They had that same charming banter with each other, although things are much more serious now. We’ve broken away from over the top camp to get real – which, seems to be the M.O. of Loki. Have Loki experience emotional development that he hadn’t in the movies. Let him admit his faults, so he may learn.

My One Gripe With This Episode

Perhaps the most uncomfortable situations in the episode centered around Slyvie and Loki. While I enjoy them teaming up, it seems the show is teetering on them becoming…more? They are technically variants of each other, but at this point have become so different that they are two different people. But, they are both Lokis so….yea. I don’t know if this is something that is going to continue, but it’s confusing for both Hiddleston’s Loki and the audience.

Rating: 4/5

Just from episode four alone, I know the last two episodes are going to be a wild ride. There’s still so many questions left unanswered and I’m itching to know what that mid-credit scene meant.
