Looking Back At The Oscars 2007 Best Picture Nominees

Although we enjoy the Academy Awards every year, we always walk away with a sour taste in our mouths. Today I will continue my series on the Oscar winners. I will share my thoughts on who won, who should’ve won and who should’ve been nominated.

The first race I am going to tackle is the 2007 Best Picture race.

Here were the 5 films nominated for Best Picture.

  • No Country for Old Men
  • There Will Be Blood
  • Atonement
  • Juno
  • Michael Clayton

Who Won?:

Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

No Country for Old Men was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and the film took home 4 Oscars including Best Picture.

Javier Bardem gave one of the best and most ruthless performances you will ever see in a film. Not only did he deserve that Oscar but he deserves accolades as giving one of the best performances of all-time. The Coen brothers (who took home Best Director, Screenplay & Picture) wrote a beautifully troubling but wonderful film.

Who Should Have Won?: No Country for Old Men

Hands down. Nothing was even remotely close.

Who Should Have Been Nominated? Ratatouille

“Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*”

The impressive thing about Ratatouille was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Original Screenplay. The film is one of the best written animated films of all time. It was funny, it was witty, it was smart and it was inspiring.

This film was hands down one of the best films of 2007

Who would you have picked as the winner? And what film was missing from being nominated?
