Although we enjoy the Academy Awards every year, we always walk away with a sour taste in our mouths. Today I will continue my series on the Oscar winners. I will share my thoughts on who won, who should’ve won and who should’ve been nominated.
The first race I am going to tackle is the 2009 Best Picture race.

Who Won?:
During the Iraq War, a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.
Hurt Locker was nominated for 9 Academy Awards, the film took home 6 Oscars including Kathyrn Bigelow becoming the first (and still only) female director to ever win the Best Director Oscar.
Who Should Have Won? The Hurt Locker
This was the first year the Academy had opened up the Best Picture race to up to 10 films.
This movie is an intense thriller. There are several moments within the film that you legit don’t know what is going to happen. Bigelow took a wonderful script and knocked it out of the ballpark with her direction. Everything about this film worked technically as well. The sound mixing and editing both won an Academy Award for a very good reason. The cinematography (which lost) was breathtaking as well.
Who Should Have Been Nominated?: The Hangover
This film was ROBBED!!!!!!! Period. The Hangover is not just one of the best films of 2009 but it’s one of the best comedies of all time, period. This film should have been nominated for Screenplay, Original Song and Best Picture. I understand this isn’t your prototypical film that is cookie cutter and Oscar-ish BUT WHO CARES!!!!! This film is so amazing!
Avatar one of the worst movies of ALL-TIME got nominated for some reason but this didn’t!!!
