Lucasfilm’s President Speaks on Star Wars Spin Offs – Outlook Does Not Look Good

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”22520″ img_size=”600×338″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Star Wars fans are preparing for the end of the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is to hit theaters in December of this year. With trailers and photos hitting the internet, people are wondering what is next? Bob Iger had stated that Disney intended to take a break from Star Wars, although we know the showrunners of Game of Thrones are developing their own trilogy, while the upcoming streaming service Disney+ will feature Star Wars related content like The Mandalorian and a series based off of Rogue One.

Due to the disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated to Vanity Fair:

“I think there is a larger expectation that Disney has. On the other hand, though, I think that Disney is very respectful of what this is, and right from the beginning we talked about the fragility of this form of storytelling. Because it’s something that means so much to fans that you can’t turn this into some kind of factory approach. You can’t even do what Marvel does, necessarily, where you pick characters and build new franchises around those characters. This needs to evolve differently.”

She continued:

“There’s a loss of innocence, a sense of innocence that existed in the 70s that I don’t think to any extent exists today. I think that has to permeate the storytelling and the reaction to the stories and how they’re set up. It has to feel different because we’re different.”

The Rose of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019.
