For as many people who liked Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, there was just as many who had issues. One of the main ones was of course, the end of the film where Superman was forced to kill General Zod. The debate usually centered on the question of whether Superman should kill. In fact, that debate is still going on even seven years after it’s release. The one person though that is at peace with the plot decision is Michael Shannon, who portrayed General Zod. In a recent interview with with CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast, Shannon was asked how he felt about Snyder’s decision.
I didn’t think there was any other way to end, it, really. I mean, Zod says it’s either me or you. I’m not gonna let you survive. I will kill you, unless you kill me.
Shannon’s opinion reflects some fans opinions. Zod made it quite clear his course was set. With the opportunity to bring Krypton back no longer a viable option, he was going to punish Kal and the planet he had adopted. Because there was no changing his mind, it became a matter of who could stop him. The answer was no one. If Superman hadn’t killed him, he was going to kill that family and probably many more. It was not an easy decision for him, and in the end, he agonized over his actions. The primal scream afterwards showed that. Even General Zod agreed with his final decision.
Do you agree with Shannon that the decision to kill Zod was the right way to go? Perhaps you on the side that Superman should not kill. Reiterate your opinion on the whole Zod demise situation with us at Geek Vibes Nation.
