“We need to fail down here so we don’t fail up their.”

First Man is a great character piece that focuses on the families struggles, losing their fathers/husbands, and the Astronauts struggles; trying to get to the moon and back safely.

_____

Damien Chazelle is most definitely a perfectionist he’s been working on First Man even before he shot La La Land. Much like Neil Armstrong wanting to make everything go as planned; Damien Chazelle also wanted to make sure everything was perfect before the film released to theaters. The question is did he successfully land this film gracefully? Yes! Yes he did.

One of the things that stuck out to was the cinematography. Linus Sandgren, who also did La La Land, Battle of the Sexes, and American Hustle, had a huge role in making the audience feel like we were with Neil. This film is the perfect example on how to use shaky cam, unlike action movies today. Linus Sadgren made me feel claustrophobic, nauseous, and disoriented. Linus Sadgren work perfectly together you can tell with their previous work with La La Land and now First Man.

Talking about working together Justin  Hurwitz has been with Damien since (2009) Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, which I haven’t seen yet, The first for me was the amazing (2014) Whiplash. The chemistry between the two are unparalleled. Justin Hurwitz  musical sense is one of the greatest. Because of the score I felt uneasy, I felt happy, and I got angry. Once again this is what happens when you have a good team that you can trust and it also took a lot of patience to make everything perfect.

The performances were really good Ryan Gosling, Clair Foy, Pablo Schreiber, Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Shea Wigham and the rest of the cast just perfect. Clair Foy will most defiantly get a nomination. Ryan Gosling is always good, but I felt like their were others that were more well rounded.

Me thinking critically  is basically a 10/10. Great performances, cinematography was perfect, score was beautiful and the screenplay really good.

For a entertainment 9/10. I would have cut somethings out of it for me the film felt too long. I know it is a character piece that builds up to the climatic moment, Landing on the Moon, and it was well earned, but I felt like he could’ve figured out a way to make this short and precise instead of long and precise.

Overall score 9.5/10[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSoRx87OO6k&t=72s” el_width=”90″ align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
