Netflix Will Cut Spending on Original Content

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25858″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Netflix hits the nail on the head when it comes to their original content shows. From the Marvel Defenders Universe, Altered Carbon, to Stranger Things. They do pretty well. The area they are not the best in is their movies. With movies like Bright, Cloverfield Paradox, How It Ends, and even Velvet Buzzsaw, everyone knows not to expect too much from Netflix. The thing is, while we brush this off, these flops are costing Netflix big. And it’s time to cut back.

According to reports, Netflix has acknowledged that it needs to be smarter with its spending. Rather than just spending its way to the top, it has to be more strategic. Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos apparently said that they were going to stop spending large amounts of money on big-budget projects unless success was guaranteed.

What caused Netflix to finally buckle down? Triple Frontier apparently. The film stars big names like Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal, Charlie Hunnam, and others. Still, they couldn’t save this film that felt like a knock-off of Den of Thieves, Narcos, and the Expendables. Triple Frontier cost up to $115 million to produce and was a flop among critics and viewers.

But, it doesn’t mean Netflix won’t be spending the money. We have The Witcher coming, DC Universe’s Sandman, and The Division which will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal.

What do you think the disconnect with the formula between movies and tv shows for Netflix is?
