For the week of August 25th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week, we explore films fresh from theaters, imports from Second Sight Films, and an exciting slate of gems from Kino Lorber. First up, Universal brings the original racing drama The Fast and the Furious to 4K UHD Blu-Ray for its 25th anniversary with a new Dolby Vision encode, Dolby Atmos track, and retrospective featurette. Magnolia Pictures has the romantic crime drama Carolina Caroline starring Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner on Blu-Ray without any supplements.
Second Sight Films has a trio of films hitting physical media from the UK, starting with the revenge film Dead Man’s Shoes starring Paddy Considine on Blu-Ray. The release is packed with supplements, including three commentary tracks, new interviews, deleted scenes, a short film, and more. Sean Connery stars in the historical whodunnit The Name of the Rose alongside Christian Slater, which has been newly released on 4K UHD Blu-Ray in Dolby Vision with a pair of commentary tracks, new interviews, and more. This is not the only 4K UHD upgrade, as Ethan Embry stars in the horror film The Devil’s Candy, available with Dolby Vision, a commentary track, new interviews, and more.
The folks at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have a slew of releases to admire. One of the biggest releases this month is Denzel Washington’s dramatic character study Flight on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. We have another recent feature with Repo Men starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker arriving with the Theatrical Cut on 4K UHD Blu-Ray in Dolby Vision, while the Unrated Cut is also presented on Blu-Ray. Both releases include commentary tracks, featurettes, and more.
The 4K UHD upgrades continue with the wartime biopic MacArthur starring Gregory Peck as the legendary American General, which has been restored from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. We have more Golden Age performers like John Wayne and Kirk Douglas in the Western adventure The War Wagon, which has been restored from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. Both oft these releases include commentary tracks, trailers, and more.
Blu-Ray fans can also celebrate with some upgrades, including a 4K remaster of Money from Home starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. This film has been restored by The 3-D Film Archive, who also tackled the restoration of The Bubble this month. Both of these releases have options to view in 2-D and 3-D options. We have plenty of international crime films on deck with Weapons of Death, Blazing Magnum, and The Counsellor on Blu-Ray in collaboration with StudioCanal. There is a double dose of Catherine Deneuve on Blu-Ray with Le Choc and Manon 70, which both include commentary tracks.
