For the week of January 21st, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week we explore exciting new releases from Shout! Studios and Kino Lorber Studio Classics. First, we have a trio of 4K UHD Blu-ray debuts from Shout Studios not to be missed. The label continues their output of Oliver Stone classics with the Tom Cruise anti-war drama Born On The Fourth Of July. The new release comes from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio along with the original audio tracks. There is also a new commentary track, numerous fresh interviews, and more archival material.
We also have the real-life Ron Howard racing drama Rush starring Daniel Brühl and Chris Hemsworth. The 4K master is presented in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio and new and archival special features. Finally, the Wes Craven supernatural horror outing Shocker gets the premium treatment with a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio along with the original audio tracks. There are also more special features than you can shake a stick at!
Kino is starting the year off strong with some amazing 4K UHD releases. Action fans will want to see out the crime thriller Reindeer Games starring Ben Affleck and Charlize Theron. The release comes with the Theatrical Cut newly scanned in 4K from the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision plus the Director’s Cut in HD. Both cuts come with a commentary track from director John Frankenheimer. We also have Al Pacino trying to hunt down a serial killer in the neo-noir Sea of Love alongside John Goodman and Ellen Barkin. The release is derived from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with new and archival commentary tracks. This is not the only serial killer being hunted as Sherlock Holmes attempts to track down Jack the Ripper in Murder by Decree starring Christopher Plummer. The release is presented in SDR from a new master by StudioCanal with a pair of commentary tracks.
Horror fans are in for a treat with a pair of 4K UHD releases. Fans of killer creature features will want to seek out Orca: The Killer Whale presented from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The film featuring Richard Harris and Charlotte Rampling includes both a new and archival commentary track. We also have the cult slasher film April Fools Day on 4K UHD from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The release includes a new commentary track and nearly all of the special features from the previous Scream Factory Blu-Ray.
We also have an array of ’50s and ’60s titles coming to Blu-Ray including the Sandra Dee romantic comedy That Funny Feeling, the journalism comedy Teacher’s Pet starring Clark Gable and Doris Day, the Cary Grant and Sophia Loren romantic comedy Houseboat, the adventure medical drama The Spiral Road starring Rock Hudson, and many more.
