For the week of January 28th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week we spotlight the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of the superhero finale Venom: The Last Dance from Sony. The film starring Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, and Rhys Ifans comes with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio along with various featurettes, deleted scenes, and more. The studio is also releasing the Robert Zemeckis drama Here starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, and Kelly Reilly. This Blu-Ray release features some deleted scenes and a featurette.
The fine folks at The Criterion Collection have a trio of hotly anticipated new releases coming up in February. First, we have the long-awaited Gus Van Sant drama Drugstore Cowboy hitting 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a new 4K restoration of the 35mm Interpositive in SDR. The release comes with new interviews with star Kelly Lynch and director of photography Robert Yeoman along with an archival commentary track, a making-of featurette, and deleted scenes. We also have a 4K UHD Blu-Ray upgrade of Guillermo del Toro’s debut Cronos from a 4K restoration of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with all of the previous archival supplements. Finally, we have the Jean-Luc Godard drama King Lear starring Molly Ringwald and Burgess Meredith. The release comes from a brand new 2K restoration of the 35m Original Camera Negative and includes new interviews.
The folks at 88 Films have continued their work of excavating the Shaw Brothers catalog, and this time around they have The Lady Assassin on Blu-Ray. The release comes with a new HD transfer and an interview with Poon Kin-Kwan. We also have Altered Innocence releasing the twisty domestic drama Endless Summer Syndrome complete with interviews with the cast and creative team.
It is a big week for horror content on Blu-Ray. Shudder has released the latest installment of a popular anthology series with V/H/S/Beyond. The folks at IFC Films unleashed the latest Samara Weaving thriller Azrael. We also have the new zombie horror-comedy All You Need Is Blood from Level 33 Entertainment. All three of these releases come with exclusive special features such as commentary tracks, featurettes, and more.
