I think that it’s safe to say that this year has produced a multitude of great films. From the top of the year until the end, 2021 continues to give us cinematic joy and excitement. We’ve been brought to tears by King Richard, wowed by Dune, stunned by The Power of the Dog, electrified by tick, tick…BOOM!, and moved by Mass. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner per category, and as Ricky Bobby would say, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” Joking aside, the competition is fierce this year. I have the privilege of voting this year as I became a Critics Choice member this summer, and it was incredibly difficult to complete my ballot as there was much to love and pick from, especially as of late. Not all of my picks made the nominations but someone had to vote for The Suicide Squad and The Eternals for Best Ensemble Cast, I tried. Nevertheless, I don’t hate anything or anyone that was nominated, I may look sideways at some, but the group has spoken.

Leading the pack with eleven nominations each is Belfast and West Side Story. Nipping at their heels are The Power of the Dog and Dune with ten nominations of their own. If you haven’t seen any of these films yet, I highly suggest all four but Belfast and The Power of the Dog in particular, they’re my top two for Best Picture. The awards ceremony will air live on The CW and TBS on Sunday, January 9, 2022, from the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel. The ceremony will be hosted by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer, you may see me there as well. But enough of me talking, below are the nominations for the 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards. Enjoy and let us know what you think.
