Year after year, as awards seasons come and go, genre films and television shows, along with their performances, tend to be ignored and unnominated even while being beloved by audiences and critics alike. These movies and series typically excite the imagination, drip blood, have superpowers, leave bad guys writhing in pain, are part of an expansive universe, and are rife with conspiracy. They are the fun, dramatic, action-packed crowd-pleasers that are heavily discussed, widely debated, cosplayed by the masses, and rewatched many times. Announced on July 15th, the Critics Choice Association recognizes the impact and importance of all genres, and that’s why the Super Awards exist.
Superman leads this year’s film nominees, having earned six nominations including Best Superhero Movie. David Corenswet, Edi Gathegi, and Nicholas Hoult all received nominations for Best Actor in a Superhero Movie, while Nicholas Hoult received an additional nod for Best Villain in a Movie. Rachel Brosnahan is also up for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie.
The Boys leads this year’s television nominees with five nominations overall including Best Superhero Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie. Antony Starr earned a nod for Best Actor in a Superhero Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie, in addition to Best Villain in a Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie, while Valorie Curry and Colby Minifie were both nominated for Best Actress in a Superhero Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie.
Notably, Masters of the Universe, Obsession, Project Hail Mary, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Weapons followed closely behind Superman with four film category nominations each. Fallout, House of the Dragon, and Paradise each earned four nominations apiece in the television categories. See the full list below.
The 6th annual Critics Choice Super Awards honors the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, and Action. Winners will be announced on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
