Not Your Normal TV Review – ‘Picard’ Episode 2

“Maps and Legends”

Warning for Possible Spoilers!

Alright, I feel confident now that I have titled this right and actually gave out possible spoilers about episode 0102. I even feel it’s kind of cool to speak in a more geeky sense especially since it’s Star Trek we are talking about. Anyhow, off to the races we go.

What is typically the review process  I have seen written online is one of describing the episode sometimes in really deep details and actually breaking things down. Which isn’t at all a bad thing but since I’m new here and trying to get a lay of the land lets be different shall we?

Maps and Legends double down on the first episode and actually opens what I thought the world is for the show. It hints at some pretty big things that can happen inside the Star Trek world. I thought it found the right teases and moments.

Us the viewers actually realize how far down the rabbit hole he will have to go to save this girl. It’s pretty far and actually going to be a pretty intense ordeal. Everything is not right with the Federation and I for one like that. I like that they have made the image of Starfleet a bit dirtier and Machiavellian. I think that there is something even darker though placed by the writing staff into the show. Picard goes through some tests to try and be allowed back into Starfleet. We find out in a scene involved with chatting with a friend that there is something Picard has that may prevent him from doing things to a not so great death. Even though he is older is definitely facing his own time and mortality. The scene with Starfleet and them denying I thought was really well done.

As a quick side note, I noticed back in the TV listings this show was labeled as a TV-MA. Yet, last week we were at a TV-14? This is odd. Is this normal? If anyone knows hey please tell me because I’m very curious and new to CBS. Also, I’m a parent and this makes it kind of interesting when trying to share this with a kid. I’m not always going to be doing a weekly review. Might just be a quick thought or question which to play around with when it comes to the show. So please be on the lookout.
