Adam Cole won a thrilling fatal five way match against Ricochet, Aleister Black, Matt Riddle and Velveteen Dream to earn a spot against Johnny Gargano in a 2 out of 3 Falls match at Takeover to crown a new champion. On the NXT UK side, it was announced that Pete Dunne would defend the WWE UK Championship against WALTER at the same event. The updated NXT Takeover New York card at this time reads as follows
